ISLA is delighted to be returning to Madrid for its 2019 Annual Securities Finance and Collateral Management Conference. This year’s agenda, themed ‘Transition, Innovation, Future State’ reflects the current confluence of political and regulatory flows that will define much of our industry for the next 5 to 10 years. This will be our first major event after the potential exit of the UK from the EU, allowing us to reflect upon where the industry is in terms of the political transition period, the rolling impacts we are seeing and what we expect to happen next. 2019 will also see the industry complete its preparations for SFTR and CSDR compliance. Although in different ways, both will fundamentally impact trading and settlement processes and flows.
The opening afternoon will be an interesting mix of presentations, covering aspects of policy, regulation, legal and tax. Amongst other things, delegates will have an opportunity to hear from ISLA, its members and other industry stakeholders on some of the key initiatives and developments over 2018/19. Updates on the work of the SFTR Steering Co and CSDR Working Group, as well as the launch of the new GMLSA pledge documentation suite but to name a few.
After this year’s opening keynote address, the second day will explore several important themes through a series of panel discussions and debates. Inevitably, the rolling impacts of the Brexit outcome on the business will feature heavily. However as we look past the uncertainties, we will also consider the role that securities lending can play more broadly around unlocking market liquidity. The current work in Spain to allow Spanish UCITS to engage more fully in lending will be an integral part of our opening session, as will the introduction of new markets. Finally, sustainability and the broader ESG agenda are becoming increasingly fundamental to our medium term thinking and will therefore form part of these forward-looking themes.
The final day will continue on the lines of forward-looking, with the technology focus considering innovation through a varied lens, including the adoption of Common Domain Models. Ahead of our closing keynote, our industry leaders’ panel will then aim to bring together some of the themes explored across the overall agenda, looking to provide context and think more broadly about the new and ongoing challenges, but also the real opportunities many are seeing across our markets.
Please Note that Beneficial Owners and Regulators can attend on a complimentary basis.
